AceShowbiz - "The Good Dinosaur" might be the latest Pixar project that undergoes what "Kung Fu Panda 2" director Jennifer Yuh Nelson once described as a "messy, creative process." The studio has had records for letting go a director midway through a production of its film. Among those who have experienced it were Brenda Chapman, who at one point directed "Brave", and Jan Pinkava, who initially served behind the lens for "Ratatouille".
According to a report from Blue Sky Disney, "The Good Dinosaur" director Bob Peterson, along with producer John Walker, has been removed by John Lasseter since "the story wasn't coming together." The site says that Lasseter still sticks to the May 30, 2014 release date for the animated movie.
With the director's seat having been left empty, many assume that Peter Sohn, listed as the co-director, will take over the duty since he appeared before the D23 audience for the film's panel without Peterson. However, neither Disney nor Pixar has commented on the report.
"The Good Dinosaur" is a story of a 70-foot-tall teenage Apatosaurus named Arlo, which befriends a young human boy named Spot. Neil Patrick Harris, Judy Greer and Bill Hader are among the voice cast members.
The film was expected to be Peterson's first chance to shine solo after co-directing "Up".
