The 'California Gurls' singer says that her upcoming 'Prism' album will be 'a mature version' of its predecessor, 2010's 'Teenage Dream'.

AceShowbiz - After saying goodbye to her old colorful and sweet image, Katy Perry returns with a new album that will feature "a more grown up" her. In a recent interview, longtime friend and fellow singer/songwriter Bonnie McKee told Idolator that Perry's fans could expect something different from "Prism", the upcoming release to follow up 2010's "Teenage Dream".

"It's kind of like a more grown-up Katy, I think," McKee said of Perry's new album. "It's different. It doesn't sound like the 'California Gurls' of yesterday. It has that same kind of energy, but it has a little twist of darkness and perseverance behind it."

Perry later confirmed McKee's statement. "I am plenty pleased with everything I'm writing," she told ABC. "And it's, you know, I think it's going to be a little bit more of a mature version of 'Teenage Dream'. I call it adult reality show."

Perry also admitted that she had full control over the music she made and she had fun with it. "I'm like the director in where I'm at in music right now. I get the final cut,'' the 28-year-old singer continued.

Perry is very close to releasing "Roar", the lead single off "Prism". She was upset after learning that the track leaked hours ahead of its official August 12 release date. "Looks like there's a tiger on the loose!!!" she wrote on Twitter.

Marking her fourth studio album, Perry's "Prism" is slated to arrive on October 22.
