The American version of the British crime drama series will begin production in January for 2014-2015 season.

AceShowbiz - FOX is going to produce an American version of ITV's "Broadchurch". The network has announced that it will turn the British crime drama into a limited series as part of its long-form "event" series.
" 'Broadchurch' is the kind of storytelling that grabs your attention and keeps you riveted with every minute - which is exactly what we look for in an event series," says Kevin Reilly, FOX entertainment chairman, in a statement. "We love the layered characters, we've seen how well-received it's been in the U.K., and we're lucky to be able to bring a new version of this mystery to the U.S. audience."
The upcoming project, which is under the working title "Broadcurch", is set in an American town and will follow the tragic and mysterious death of a young boy found lifeless on a beach surrounded by rocks and a jutting cliff-face, from where he may have fallen. Although the cause of his death remains unsolved, the seaside town where the tragedy occurred is at the heart of a major police investigation and a nationwide media frenzy.
Production will begin in January for 2014-2015 TV season. The U.K. show's creator, Chris Chibnall, will write the premiere episode and executive produce the series with Shine America's Carolyn Bernstein and Jane Featherstone.
The original "Broadchurch" stars former "Doctor Who" actor David Tennant and Olivia Colman. It premiered in March in the U.K. and drew 10 million viewers for its season finale. The show will premiere August 7 in the U.S. on BBC America.
