The 'Modern Family' star's mother failed to wrestle custody from temporary guardian Shanelle Gray.

AceShowbiz - In her latest bid to regain custody of her actress daughter, Ariel Winter's mom Chrisoula Workman failed to convince Senior Court Judge Michael Levenas to retract his previous decision of awarding to her older daughter Shanelle Gray the temporary guardianship over the 15-year-old TV star. Workman lost custody over her younger daughter after she was alleged of physically and emotionally abusing Winter.

Levenas did not take back his March 29 order of assigning Gray as temporary guardian, saying he is yet to see any effort from Workman that she's serious about repairing her relationship with her teenage daughter. Gray, whose guardianship may be made permanent after a scheduled September 16 trial to decide the matter, has been caring for Winter since October last year.

Workman is vocal about her resentment about the whole thing, claiming, "I'm the one being abused here." Apparently, she's pursuing the custody battle not just for herself but for others caught in the same situation, saying, "I'm doing this for all stage mothers. This could happen to any of them."

Winter, who plays Alex Dunphy on the hit TV sitcom "Modern Family", was able to get a restraining order against Workman, who denied all the allegations of abuse. She said it's all just a result of her disapproval over Winter's romantic relationship with fellow actor Cameron Palatas. However, Gray corroborated Winter's allegations, claiming Workman "slapped, hit, pushed" Winter and deprived her of food.
