The CW Plans 'Flash' Series, Puts 'Wonder Woman' on Hold

July 31, 2013, 2:51 am GMT

The Flash a.k.a. Barry Allen will be introduced in three episodes of 'Arrow', but no actor has been cast in the role.

The CW is going to bring another superhero to the small screen. The network announces that it's developing a new series based on DC Comics character The Flash, with "Arrow" co-creators/executive producers Greg Berlanti and Andrew Kreisberg behind it. "Arrow" writer Geoff Johns will pen the script.

The plan is to introduce Barry Allen a.k.a. The Flash in three episodes of "Arrow", No. 8, No. 9 and No. 20. He will be depicted as "an ordinary man" in episode 8 as Kreisberg dishes, "When we first meet Barry Allen, he's just a forensic scientist... The character will be as grounded and realistic as possible. That's how we'll get to know him. Then his life will get a bit faster."

Kreisberg continues gushing, "Part of the fun for the audience ... is to see how we view our Arrow take on the Flash legacy. Some of it will feel very familiar to DC Comics, some of it hopefully will feel different, fresh and exciting. The same way we approached Arrow is the same way we're approaching Barry."

Since the existing characters surrounding Arrow don't have superpowers, they will react to The Flash "in a very realistic way." Kreisberg explains, "There will be extraordinary events in the world and the characters will react in the same way."

David Nutter, who helmed the "Arrow" pilot, will direct episode 20, which serves as a back-door pilot for "The Flash". Casting is still underway for the Barry Allen dapicter.

In the meantime, Wonder Woman will have to wait in the queue a little longer since the prequel series "Amazon" is "on pause right now." The CW President Mark Pedowitz admits, "The script isn't where we want it," adding that "it's better to wait and get it right."
