Venice Film Festival to Screen 'Gravity', 'Unforgiven' Remake, 'The Canyons' and More

James Franco's 'Child of God', Christoph Waltz's 'The Zero Theorem' and Zac Efron's 'Parkland' are among titles that will be premiered in competition.

AceShowbiz - The 70th Venice International Film Festival has revealed its line-up which turns out to include many American movies in it. As previously reported, Alfonso Cuaron is given the honor to have his latest film "Gravity", which stars Sandra Bullock and George Clooney as two people stranded in space, become the first 3D picture to ever open the annual event.

James Franco and Terry Gilliam will premiere their films, "Child of God" and "The Zero Theorem" respectively, in competition. Also in the main competition are Judi Dench's "Philomena", Scarlett Johansson's "Under the Skin" and Jesse Eisenberg's "Night Moves" among others.

"Gravity" will not be the only title showing out of competition. From the Thursday announcement, it is revealed that Lee Sang-Il's "Unforgiven (2013)", the remake of Clint Eastwood's 1992 pic, Paul Schrader's "The Canyons", which stars Lindsay Lohan, and Steven Knight's "Locke", featuring Tom Hardy, are included in the same list.

The Horizons line-up is unveiled as well, including "Palo Alto" from Gia Coppola, Francis Ford Coppola's granddaughter, and "Aningaaq" from Alfonso Cuaron's son, Jonas.

"The richness of American cinema at the moment is really extraordinary, both from the indies and from Hollywood," says Alberto Barbera, artistic director of the Venice Film Festival. "I think we've got an interesting mix of established names and new names and of films of many different types."
