The 'What a Girl Wants' star is taken into custody for physiological counseling after spotted with a gas can trailing fire.

AceShowbiz - Amanda Bynes has been hospitalized on a 5150 hold. The troubled actress was placed under psychiatric hold for mental evaluation after caught red-handed setting a fire in the driveway of a random person's house in her hometown of Thousand Oaks, California.

The incident allegedly happened in the 200 block of Avenida de los Arboles Monday, July 22 about 8:46 P.M., just a block away from her father Richard's house. A witness saw the ex-Nickelodeon star with a gas can and called 911 out of fear that it could explode.

Andrew Liverpool told reporters, as quoted by Los Angeles Times, that he saw "this girl lying down here with her left pant leg on fire and there is this gas can right here and it is trailing fire." He went to help, but she managed to put out the flames on her clothes herself.

Others reportedly came to help as he was moving the gas can away. She tried to hail a cab in the next block after leaving the scene, but he told the driver not to take her. He recognized who she was and confronted her about the fire. She claimed her dog had been burned.

"There was a call about a small fire that she'd apparently set in front of the residence, kind of out on a sidewalk on the concrete," confirmed Sgt. Eric Buschow in a statement after the news broke out. "It wasn't an attempt to burn down the house or anything."

Though no harm done and no property damage caused, authorities apparently felt it was an alarming incident. "Deputies investigated the incident and determined that she met the criteria of 5150.... She was detained and taken for a mental health evaluation," Capt. Don Aguilar said.

While someone usually undergoes "72-hour treatment and evaluation" in such cases, Bynes could face up to two weeks for additional psychological counseling if the authorities prove that the former child actress is a danger to herself and others.

When asked for comment, her attorney Richard Hutton said his client was "fine" and the reports were just "exaggerated."
