Comic-Con 2013: Andrew Garfield Dressed in Costume for 'Amazing Spider-Man 2' Panel
Movie

The British-born actor surprised everyone as he showed up on stage in the Spidey costume alongside Jamie Foxx and Dane DeHaan.

AceShowbiz - Andrew Garfield surely knows how to entertain people. The 29-year-old actor made quite an entrance as he wore the costume of the fan-favorite webslinger and appeared before fans who gathered in the huge Hall H for the "The Amazing Spider-Man 2" panel at San Diego Comic-Con. Jamie Foxx and Dane DeHaan also showed up to promote their latest film. Emma Stone who is filming a Woody Allen movie in France left a video message.

An extended trailer from the sequel was screened at the convention. The video features a catch-me-if-you-can scene between Spidey and Rhino, first encounter of the webslinger and Max Dillon, a shot of Gwen Stacy looking at a bridge, scenes between sickly Norman Osborn and his son, and, of course, the transformation of Dillon into the villainous Electro who is later seen shooting lightning out of his hands and sending out a powerful electrical pulse.

During the Q&A session, Garfield first tried to tackle some questions in full costume. As he finally shucked the mask and appeared as himself, a fan asked him how he toned down his "awesomeness" as Peter Parker, noting that Tobey Maguire's version was "this really nerdy guy, [that] girls don't really like him."

The actor replied, "I'm so, so sorry to disagree with you, but you are mistaken on all counts. Tobey Maguire was a sex machine!" He then jokingly offered, in a sultry voice, to meet the fan at the back of the hall.

Foxx, meanwhile, revealed that playing a villain was "extremely fun." Of his character Electro, he said that Dillon would be betrayed by love, family and his work. That his own mother forgets his birthday upsets Dillon, who worships Spidey, even more.

DeHaan's Harry Osborn would complicate Peter's life, Webb revealed. Asked about the possibility of Spidey's gay relationship as he himself suggested before, Garfield answered, "Spider-Man stands for everybody - black, white, Asian, gay, straight, lesbian, bisexual. [But] it wouldn't make sense if in the third movie suddenly I was with a black guy; we haven't really established that."

"Amazing Spider-Man 2" will open in May 2014. In a recent report from Cinema Blend, Webb says that "[Felicity] Jones's character has a 'special relationship' with Norman Osborn, not Harry," suggesting that the Green Goblin is still Norman, not Harry as previously speculated.
