Kerry Washington, Kevin Spacey, Bill Hader and More React to Their Emmy Nominations
As Aaron Paul and Neil Patrick Harris announced the nominations for the upcoming 65th annual Primetime Emmy Awards, some TV stars woke up to good news of them getting a nod. Among them who started their day with such thing to celebrate were Kerry Washington, Kevin Spacey and Bill Hader.
Being humble as always, "Scandal" actress Washington tells PEOPLE, "I'm the luckiest broad in showbiz. I just feel really blessed and humbled and grateful for this nomination." She learned that she's nominated for Lead Actress in a Drama Series when she was at the airport, so she didn't have time to celebrate it.
"It was good. I had to keep my composure and pretend everything was normal," she shares, before adding, "I'm so happy. We have this table read. I'll get to really hug my 'Scandal' fam and thank everyone."
On the other hand, Spacey was with the "House of Cards" big family while awaiting the Emmy announcement. "We were up because it's a work day for us on 'House of Cards'. When your name starts with an 'S' and it's the last name said, there are a couple of moments of oh s**t," he dishes. "And the same is true with Robin Wright. Because she started with a 'W' and she was the last name. So I was very pleased when both of us came up."
Being a part of new history with Netflix, he calls it "a fantastic acknowledgment of a new paradigm. I hope as we're going to start to see even more shows that are going to be produced and distributed in a new way."
Hader was told about his Emmy nomination when his wife and two young children asleep, so he "didn't know who to tell" and "just made coffee by myself." He says it's "such a nice surprise and such an honor" to get recognized although he has just departed from "Saturday Night Live".
Alec Baldwin also gets nominated after his show "30 Rock" ended its run. He says, "It's days like this that make me miss '30 Rock'." His co-star Jane Krakowski echoes the sentiment, reacting to her Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series nomination, "This is such an incredible way to celebrate '30 Rock' 's final season - I can't wait to go to the Emmys with my cast mates and dance like no one's watching."
True to her comedic root, Amy Poehler enthuses, "I appreciate the nominations. I love my job. But nice try, guys. I'm not falling for this old trick again," as she has been nominated for Emmy Award several times before but never won any.
Funnyman Jimmy Kimmel comments on Oustanding Variety Series nomination for "Jimmy Kimmel Live!", "It just goes to show you - good things happen to bad people." Vying for the same prize, Jimmy Fallon quips, "Honored to be nominated for an Emmy this morning. Takes the sting away from being snubbed by the ESPYs last night."
Don Cheadle's reaction is also a hilarious one. "Given all the hilarious film work I've done, from 'Traffic' to 'Crash' to 'Flight', it's nice to finally be recognized as the comic genius I am. Thank you, Academy members," the Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series nominee states.
Winners of the 2013 Emmy Awards will be announced in a ceremony held Sunday, September 22. "How I Met Your Mother" star Neil Patrick Harris will be hosting.
