'There's an overwhelming sense of peace knowing my dad is no longer battling his demons anymore and that makes me so happy,' the singer says.

AceShowbiz - Demi Lovato shared her feelings after laying her father to his final rest in a funeral service this past weekend. The "Heart Attack" singer lost her father less than a week ago, which forced her to miss out a scheduled photo shoot for the upcoming season of "The X Factor (US)".

"Today I put my Daddy to rest.... hardest thing I've ever done.. But I know great things will come of this... #LovatoTreatmentScholarship," she tweeted. "There's an overwhelming sense of peace knowing my dad is no longer battling his demons anymore and that makes me so happy.."

Demi's parents divorced in 1994. She and her father had a rocky relationship since 2007. In a "very personal" song titled "For the Love of a Daughter" from her 2011 album "Unbroken", the songstress discussed her estranged relationship with her father.

"The last time I talked to him was two years ago. You try to have faith in somebody, even when you're the last person that believes in him," she once said. "But when somebody lets you down after you've been the only one there for them, and so many times, you don't know what else to do."

She later said on "Good Morning America" that her father "dealt with mental illnesses and he wasn't able to function in society and that happens to a lot of people." To honor the memories of her late father, she launched Lovato Treatment Scholarship.

"I'm working with Cast Recovery, a treatment center I've worked really, really closely with, and I have trust in their program," Demi said. "I'm a firm believer that everything happens for a reason." The program will help one person at a time pay for mental illness treatment.

Demi herself battled her own demons with bipolar disorder, bulimia and self-harming issues.
