Mormon-Owned NBC Affiliate to Air First-Run Episodes of 'Saturday Night Live'

June 29, 2013 (5:43 am) GMT
KSL-TV will broadcast new episodes of the variety show beginning this fall, insisting content was never the issue with 'SNL'.

"" will finally air on KSL-TV, the NBC affiliate in Salt Lake City, years after it refused to carry the sketch show. The station, owned by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, has decided to broadcast new episodes of the variety series starting September 28 at 10:30 P.M. with the show's 39th season.

"Starting this fall, KSL is pleased to welcome Saturday Night Live to its weekly line-up, on Saturday nights at 10:30," KSL announced through its Facebook page. "More changes and updates to the fall line-up are coming soon -- stay with us and we'll keep you posted!"

Although it has aired "SNL" re-run on earlier Saturday slot, KSL has not run the regular show since it became NBC affiliate in 1995. According to Tami Ostmark, KSL-TV's vice president of marketing, research and promotion, content was never the issue with "SNL". She insisted that they didn't carry "SNL" before because they didn't want to preempt a local sports talk show that aired at the same time.

KSL is known for banning some of NBC's shows due to "inappropriate content", including "", "" and "".
