The 'Amazing Spider-Man' actor will appear as Mycroft Holmes in the second season premiere of the CBS series.

AceShowbiz - "Elementary" has found Sherlock Holmes' older brother in Rhys Ifans. CBS has announced that the "Notting Hill" star is cast in the recurring role of Mycroft Holmes and will make his first appearance on the show in the second season premiere, which will be filmed on location in London and air September 26.
"I could not be more excited to have Rhys coming aboard," creator Robert Doherty says in a statement. "I've always been a tremendous fan and feel very honored to have him in the fold. Equally excited are Jonny [Lee Miller] and Lucy [Liu], both of whom have worked with Rhys in feature films. I think this is going to be a lot of fun for all of us."
According to the official synopsis, in the episode Sherlock (Jonny Lee Miller) is called to London to revisit an old case, where he is forced to face his older brother, Mycroft. Although the siblings suffered a drastic falling-out a few years earlier, Mycroft allows Sherlock and Joan (Lucy Liu) to stay in his new home, 221B Baker Street. With Joan in the middle, the brothers are forced to confront their very complicated history.
Ifans gained fame in the United States for his portrayal of gambling footballer turned American football player Nigel Gruff in 2000's film "The Replacements". He landed a role as Xenophilius Lovegood in "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I" and appeared as Dr. Curt Connors a.k.a. The Lizard in "The Amazing Spider-Man".
