'Bad Teacher 2' in the Works, Cameron Diaz Expected to Head Back
Movie

Director Jake Kasdan returns to the 'Bad Teacher' sequel with Justin Malen set to provide the script.

AceShowbiz - "Bad Teacher" officially heads back to school. Columbia Pictures has announced that "Bad Teacher 2", the sequel to the 2011 comedy movie, is now under development. Director Jake Kasdan once again takes charge of the second installment, which will be penned by Justin Malen, and is expected to see the return of Cameron Diaz as the foul-mouthed teacher.

" 'Bad Teacher' was a hit not just in North America, but throughout the world. We're excited that Jake will be returning to develop and helm the sequel," says Hannah Minghella, president of production for the studio, in a statement. "We love Justin's take on the material - it hits all the notes that made the first film such a breakthrough hit and also takes the characters in a new direction that is fresh and fun."

Kasdan will also produce the recently-greenlit follow-up alongside Jimmy Miller, Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky. Melvin Mar is set to be executive producer with Minghella and Jonathan Kadin to oversee the development of the project for the studio.

While Diaz is invited back to star in the second film, there is no word on whether her "Bad Teacher" co-stars Justin Timberlake and Jason Segel will be asked to be involved in the production too. As of now, no release date is set yet.

In the first movie, Diaz played Elizabeth Halsey, a lazy, irresponsible and gold-digging teacher who attempted to raise money, through all means, for a breast enlargement. The film itself will be adapted into a TV series for CBS.
