The 'Les Miserables' actress will act opposite Cate Blanchett in Kenneth Branagh's take on the Disney classic story.

AceShowbiz - Helena Bonham Carter lands a role as a fairy godmother of "Cinderella", The Hollywood Reporter learns. In the live-action movie directed by Kenneth Branagh, the character will get more screen time than in Disney's 1950 animated film. She will appear as an old beggar who watches over Cinderella before revealing her true identity to the orphaned girl.

The new take on the classic fairytale will be headlined by Lily James, known for starring as Lady Rose McClare in "Downton Abbey". Cate Blanchett comes aboard to play the wicked stepmother, with Sophie McShera and Holliday Granger portraying the stepsisters. "Game of Thrones" star Richard Madden nabs the prince role.

Aline Brosh McKenna of "The Devil Wears Prada" will provide the screenplay. Simon Kinberg is set to serve as co-producer along with Allison Shearmur and David Barron.

Eyeing a fall shoot in London, "Cinderella" is reportedly due out next year.

Bonham Carter has previously been involved in Disney production, taking on the role as the Red Queen in "Alice in Wonderland", directed by her frequent collaborator and life partner Tim Burton.

Recently starring in "Les Miserables", she will next be seen acting opposite Johnny Depp and Armie Hammer in "The Lone Ranger".
