The 'Armageddon' actress will star alongside Justin Theroux in 'The Leftovers', an apocalyptic drama based on Tom Perrotta's novel.

AceShowbiz - Liv Tyler is set to make her TV debut with HBO's pilot "The Leftovers". She has been cast on the television adaptation of Tom Perrotta's 2011 book of the same name, being set to share screen with Justin Theroux who was earlier cast in a lead male role.
Tyler will play Meg, a young woman who is about to be married, but needs an escape. She eventually is recruited to join a cult following the Rapture. Theroux, meanwhile, will portray Kevin Garvey, a town's chief of police and a father of two who is "trying to maintain some semblance of normalcy in a world that is starting to completely reject that notion."
Michael Gaston, who has a recurring role on "The Mentalist", has just been added to the cast as well. He will play Dean, a man who seems to understand that times have changed and addresses it head-on - often violently.
The apocalyptic drama takes place after the Rapture happens but not quite like it's supposed to. According to the official logline, "this is the story of the people who didn't make the cut... and a world that will never be the same."
Damon Lindelof and Perrotta co-write the drama pilot, with Peter Berg on board to direct it. Lindelof and Berg will also serve as executive producers along with Ron Yerxa, Albert Berger and Sarah Aubrey.
"The Leftovers" will mark Tyler's first foray in TV. The 35-year-old daughter of rocker Steven Tyler is best known for her role as Arwen Undomiel in the "Lord of the Rings" film trilogy. Her other film credits include "Jersey Girl", "Armageddon" and "The Incredible Hulk".
