AceShowbiz - "Girl Meets World" has finally got the greenlight from Disney Channel. It was announced on Monday, June 17 that the family-friendly spin-off of "Boy Meets World", the ABC 90s coming of age sitcom, has just been picked up to series by the Mouse House.

The show is set in New York City in the same vein as its predecessor. Only this time, the focus will shift from Cory and Topanga to their young daughter Riley Matthews. Along with her best friend, the tween will navigate through middle school under her parents' watchful eyes.

Original "Boy Meets World" stars Ben Savage and Danielle Fishel will reprise their roles as Cory and Topanga respectively. "Spy Kids 4: All the Time in the World" actress Rowan Blanchard will play Riley, while Sabrina Carpenter will become her BFF.

Creator/executive producer Michael Jacobs also returns to the series, which will see Cory working as a history teacher at the school where Riley and her best friend Maya are going. Meanwhile, Topanga owns an afterschool hangout famous for its pudding.

"I am grateful to everyone at Disney Channel for the opportunity to reach my favorite audience, which has always been kids," Jacobs says as quoted by The Hollywood Reporter. "Girl Meets World is a new show for a new generation that will be rooted in the same kind of honest, comedic storytelling about coming of age and the importance of family and friendship that made Boy Meets World so popular."

Adam Bonnett, executive vp original programming at Disney Channels Worldwide, adds, "Boy Meets World and its story of adolescent self discovery resonated with an entire generation of tweens. In the same way audiences fell in love with Cory Matthews and Topanga Lawrence, we look forward to introducing our viewers to their daughter Riley Matthews in Girl Meets World and building a memorable connection with a whole new generation of fans."

Production is planned to begin this summer in Los Angeles for a scheduled 2014 premiere.
