The second 'Purge' film is currently in the works at Universal, while Warner Bros. taps helmer Zack Snyder and scribe David S. Goyer again to take charge of the next Superman flick.

AceShowbiz - Following stunning result at the box office, "The Purge" will be turned into a feature franchise. Producer Jason Blum has made announcement on Twitter, stating that "The Purge 2", the sequel to the horror thriller flick from director/writer James DeMonaco, is in development at Universal Pictures.

Similarly, "Man of Steel", which recently invaded New York for its world premiere, is confirmed to have its second installment, "Man of Steel 2", even though the first film's not released nationwide yet until June 14. Warner Bros. moves forward with its sequel, already securing director Zack Snyder and screenwriter David S. Goyer to work on it.

Headlined by Ethan Hawke, "The Purge" was produced for only $3 million and released on June 7. Unfavorable among critics, the film pulled off box office shocker as it claimed victory with a surprising $34.1 million in its first week. Its intriguing premise - what if all crime was legal for 12 hours once a year? - was said to be its appeal to the audience.

As for "Man of Steel", the upcoming film has gained positive buzz and a swell of anticipation among fans. Introducing Henry Cavill as the new Superman, it centers on Kal-El/Clark Kent, who discovers his super abilities and becomes the hero known as "Superman," to shine as the world's last beacon of hope as well as protect the ones he loves.

While "Man of Steel 2" sees the return of its helmer and scribe, it is still unknown whether DeMonaco will be hired back to work on "Purge 2".
