The British hitmaker faces protests from anti-gay people who demand that he changes his flamboyant outfits during a concert in Russia, because they are parts of 'homosexual propaganda.'

AceShowbiz - Elton John is requested to change his flamboyant concert outfits during a Russian concert next month, or else he will face protests. The British singer is set to perform in the city of Krasnodar on July 14. However, Communists of Russia party demands him to ditch his usual concert outfits because they are deemed as "homosexual propaganda."

John is suggested to wear "more respectable" traditional clothing called Cossack in the July 14 concert. According to Russian media Ria Novosti, the local party leader Mikhail Abramyan recommends the 66-year-old singer to wear the knee-length kaftan, knee-high leather boots, and a fur hat.

The concert's promoter has rejected the idea, but Abramyan says that "we hope he'll wear it." He adds that his group with 350 people are ready to make protests on streets in regards to this matter.

The news outlet notes that in several parts of the country, including Krasnodar, promoting homosexuality is a criminal offense. On Thursday, June 6, parliament members proposed a law in which media could be fined as much as 1 million rubles or $30,000 for activities related to promoting homosexuality, although the criteria of the offense were still unclear.

Madonna was hit with a $10 million lawsuit last year after Russian anti-gay groups claimed she broke local law by supporting homosexuality during a concert on St. Petersburg. The lawsuit was dropped later.
