The John Lennon depicter in 'Nowhere Boy' is named frontrunner for the coveted role in Joss Whedon's upcoming film.

AceShowbiz - After Joss Whedon confirmed the arrival of siblings Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch in his next film "The Avengers 2", fans have been left wondering who will likely portray each character. Now, The Wrap reports that English actor Aaron Johnson has emerged as the strong candidate for the role as Quicksilver.

Despite no official decision yet, a source close the production claims that Johnson is "being eyed" to play Magneto's son, who is capable of moving and thinking at superhuman speeds, for Marvel. The actor himself seems to be a perfect choice for it considering his impressive talent in tackling action scenes for his portrayal of Dave in "Kick-Ass".

As for Scarlet Witch, Saoirse Ronan is rumored to be the studio's top choice since she's reported being the "prototype" for the version of that character in the upcoming film. In response to the rumors, the 19-year-old beauty said, "I have heard about it and yes, I would ... I love Joss and I love those films ... So yeah, I'd love to be in it."

Marvel, meanwhile, is still pulling effort to bring back Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man in the film because Whedon has made it clear that he has "no intention of making 'Avengers 2' without him."

Besides "Avengers 2", Quicksilver will make an appearance in Bryan Singer's "X-Men: Days of Future Past" with Johnson's "Kick-Ass" co-star, Evan Peters, as the depicter.

Kevin Feige serves as producer for "Avengers 2", which is scheduled for a May 1, 2015 release.
