Bernadette Hernandez passed away one day after reported being hospitalized in a critical condition in Honolulu, Hawaii.

AceShowbiz - Condolences are pouring in for Bruno Mars and his family. The Grammy-winning singer/songwriter is mourning the loss of his mother Bernadette Hernandez, an Atlantic Records publicist confirms to Associated Press.

Mrs. Hernandez reportedly passed away Saturday, June 1 after suffering a brain aneurysm. Aside from her chart-topping son, she is survived by five other children; another son Eric and four daughters Presley, Tahiti, Tiara and Jamie. She was 55.

News about her death came after Star magazine reported she was hospitalized in critical condition at the Queens medical Center near her home in Honolulu, Hawaii after suffering a suspected heart attack on Friday.

A hula dancer and a singer from the Philippines, Mrs. Hernandez gave her full support for her children's interest in music and helped nurture Mars' talent since an early age. Now, her son Eric is a drummer in his brother's band, while her daughters formed a music girl group.

Talking about his growing up in a musical family, Mars once told Rolling Stone, "I wouldn't trade it for anything because I feel like I can enjoy this so much." As early as 4 years old, he has already penned his own song. He wrote an 80s-inspired ballad called "I Love You Mom".

Mars, who has his mother's name tattooed on his shoulder, is scheduled to go on tour later this month. It's unclear if her death will affect the concert schedule.
