The drama from Bryan Fuller will return with 13 new episodes next midseason or later.

AceShowbiz - "Hannibal" will continue preying on his victims for another year. NBC has picked up the show for a 13-episode second season, joining "Chicago Fire" and "Revolution" as the only freshman series which get a renewal from the network this year.

"We're so proud of Bryan [Fuller]'s vision for a show that is richly textured, psychologically complex, and very compelling," NBC Entertainment president Jennifer Salke says. "There are many great stories still to be told." The network, however, notes that the show will only return next midseason or later.

The drama from Bryan Fuller which is based on characters in Thomas Harris' novel "Red Dragon" has averaged 4.7 million viewers and a 2.0 rating when including seven days of DVR. The show stars Mads Mikkelsen as the titular character and Hugh Dancy as FBI agent Will Graham.

"Hannibal" is slated to wrap up its first season in June. Newly-released pictures from the upcoming episodes feature the return of Eddie Izzard's Dr. Gideon in a June 6 outing and the guest appearance of Ellen Muth on June 13.

"What was interesting about having Ellen [Muth] on the show was that there was actually an opportunity to deconstruct our previous collaboration [on Dead Like Me] in a very unexpected way," Fuller said of Muth's character, who bears resemblance to her character on Fuller's previous show "Dead Like Me". "Her character has the same name, [George], and is a reinterpretation."
