The 'How I Met Your Mother' star will take the helm of the 65th annual Primetime Emmy Awards after hosting the show in 2009.

AceShowbiz - Neil Patrick Harris has been announced as the host of this year's Primetime Emmy Awards. It will mark the second time the actor pulls the same duty after fronting the telecast back in 2009 when the show aired on CBS.

"I couldn't be more honored and excited to be hosting this year's Emmy Awards," says the 39-year-old actor, who is also set to host the 67th Tony Awards airing on CBS Sunday, June 9. "And what perfect timing - I'll just do the exact same script I'm about to use for the Tonys. 'And the Emmy for Best Revival of a Musical goes to 'Breaking Bad'!' See, told you it works."

CBS Entertainment president Nina Tassler comments, "Neil is the quintessential host - engaging, entertaining and a true showman - with a passion for celebrating the medium we all love." TV Academy chairman and CEO Bruce Rosenblum adds, "Four years ago, Neil was an amazing Emmy host and we are excited to have him back."

Harris got rave reviews for his hosting stint at the Emmys in 2009, showcasing his musical skill in his opening number. The Barney Stinson of "How I Met Your Mother" has won three Emmy Awards, one of which was for his guest role on "Glee". He has also been nominated multiple times for his role on the CBS sitcom, "HIMYM".

His hosting stint at the 63rd annual Tony Awards also earned the "Doogie Howser, M.D." star an Emmy Award. The upcoming Tony gig will be the fourth time in five years he's done so.

This year's Emmy Awards will be held September 22 and broadcast live on CBS from the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles. The telecast will likely be followed by the premiere of "HIMYM" final season the day after.
