Adam Levine Reacts to Outrage Over 'I Hate This Country' Comment on 'The Voice'
Celebrity

The Maroon 5 ringleader defends his comment as he posts the definition of 'joke' and 'misunderstand' on Twitter.

AceShowbiz - Adam Levine had a bad night on the latest episode of "The Voice". Not only was he left with one remaining contestant on his team but he also came under fire over his "I hate this country" remark which he muttered to express his frustration after losing two proteges on the singing contest.

As his comment drew criticisms on the social media, the Maroon 5 lead singer posted on Twitter the definition of "joke," "humorless," "lighthearted" and "misunderstand" from the dictionary to help explain that he meant no harm with his comment.

"joke-noun 1. something said or done to provoke laughter or cause amusement, as a witticism, a short and amusing anecdote, or prankish act," he wrote. "humorless (hymr-ls) adj. 1. Lacking a sense of humor. 2. Said or done without humor."

"lighthearted Function: adjective 1 : free from care, anxiety, or seriousness : happy-go-lucky 2 : cheerfully optimistic," he continued. "misunderstand Pronunciation: \(ˌ)mi-ˌsən-dər-ˈstand\ Date: 13th century 1 : to fail to understand 2 : to interpret incorrectly."

Additionally, he told Us Weekly, "I obviously love my country very much and my comments last night were made purely out of frustration." He added, "Being a part of The Voice, I am passionately invested in my team and want to see my artists succeed."

"Last night's elimination of Judith and Sarah was confusing and downright emotional for me and my comments were made based on my personal dissatisfaction with the results," he reasoned. "I am very connected to my artists and know they have long careers ahead, regardless of their outcome on the show."

Earlier after the show, he admitted, "I'm sad . . . and a little pissed off, to be honest." He went on, "I was shocked, actually. I think they all gave us really strong performances . . . I'm really passionate about these singers and their talent and believe that maybe their talent was overshadowed by some other things."
