The 'Parks and Recreation' actor and the 'Once Upon a Time' star are cast in the National Geographic movie about President John F. Kennedy's last days.

AceShowbiz - Rob Lowe is going to play president. The actor, who recently starred in HBO's "Behind the Candelabra" as Liberace's plastic surgeon Dr. Startz, is tapped to portray President John F. Kennedy in National Geographic Channel's movie "Killing Kennedy".

The Sam Seaborn of "The West Wing" will be paired with "Once Upon a Time" actress Ginnifer Goodwin who is cast as First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy. "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" alumna Michelle Trachtenberg was earlier picked to play Lee Harvey Oswald's wife Marina.

"We are thrilled to be working with Rob Lowe, Ginnifer Goodwin and Michelle Trachtenberg, three gifted artists who have responded to this timely, authentic and entertaining material," Howard T. Owens, president of the National Geographic Channels, says in a statement.

"With Killing Kennedy, timed to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the assassination of JFK, National Geographic Channel continues to bring daring, culturally significant television events to our growing global audience."

The two-hour drama is adapted from Bill O'Reilly's "Killing Kennedy: The End of Camelot". The project was greenlit last January ahead of the premiere of "Killing Lincoln", which was based on O'Reilly's other best-selling novel.

"Killing Kennedy" chronicles the final years of Kennedy and his assassin Oswald, who is yet to be cast. Nelson McCormick will serve as director for the TV movie. Production is set to start June in Richmond, Va., for a late-2013 premiere.

Following the success of "Killing Lincoln", there are also plans to adapt O'Reilly's upcoming book "Killing Jesus: A History", which is due out in September.
