The indie rock band's 'Modern Vampires of the City' edges out the King of Country's 'Love Is Everything'.

AceShowbiz - New York rockers Vampire Weekend land this week's No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 chart with the 134,000 sales debut of "Modern Vampires of the City". With the record-setting sales week for the band, it becomes their second No. 1 album on the chart, after the first one, "Contra" which arrived at the top back in 2010 with 124,000 copies sold.
At the runner-up position is King of Country George Strait with "Love Is Everything", moving a close 125,000 copies in its initial sales week in the chart. It may have fallen short of the top spot in its debut but Strait's new album sets a couple of new records for the legendary country artist.
"Love Is Everything" becomes Strait's 18th top ten album, tying him with Paul McCartney for the fourth most top ten albums in history among male artists, after such music greats as Frank Sinatra with 33, Elvis Presley with 27 and Bob Dylan with 20. It also gives Strait his 25th No. 1 album in the Country Albums chart, further strengthening his hold on the record for most No. 1's in this category.
Ending up at the third spot is Demi Lovato's "Demi", the third and last debut of the week. Lovato's fourth album is also her fourth straight LP to debut in the top four and its 110,000 units sales is the best sales week ever for the pop rock songstress.
Previous week runner-up, "The Great Gatsby" soundtrack, falls two places down to No. 4, down 30|percent| with 95,000, while last week's top album, Lady Antebellum's "Golden", drops four places down to No. 5 with 56,000, down by a whopping 67|percent|. Moving three spots to No. 6 from No. 3 is the "Now 46" compilation, declining 43|percent| with its 52,000 sales as Justin Timberlake's "The 20/20 Experience" slightly slides to No. 7 from No. 6 with 44,000, its sales decreasing by 34|percent|.
At No. 8 is last week's No. 4 album, Michael Buble's "To Be Loved", down by a large 53|percent| with another 40,000 records sold this week, while the Pistol Annies' "Annie Up" album tumbles from No. 5 to No. 9, its big 64|percent| decline was due to the 30,000 units it only managed to move this week. Rounding up the top ten and holding on consistently for many weeks now is Blake Shelton's "Based on a True Story...", down by 26|percent| but adding another 28,000 to Shelton's album sales tally.
