AceShowbiz - The third annual Critics' Choice Television Awards has announced its nominations. With the growing popularity of Internet streaming service, this year's nominees spans a wide range of not only network and cable's programs, but also a Netflix show.
Leading the pack in term of number are "American Horror Story" and "The Big Bang Theory" with six each. The FX series shows its domination in Best Movie or Miniseries categories, with its stars Jessica Lange, James Cromwell, Zachary Quinto, Sarah Paulson and Lily Rabe landing a nod each.
The CBS hit sitcom is up for Best Comedy Series, going head to head with "Louie", "The Middle", "New Girl", "Parks and Recreation" and "Veep. It's recognized in other categories including Best Actor in a Comedy Series (Jim Parsons), Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series (Simon Helberg), Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy (Kaley Cuoco and Melissa Rauch) as well as Best Guest Performer in a Comedy Series (Bob Newhart).
In drama field, rookie "The Americans" enters the race for the coveted Best Drama Series title against critically-acclaimed shows "Breaking Bad", "Downton Abbey", "Game of Thrones", "The Good Wife" and "Homeland".
"House of Cards" is mentioned in Best Actor in a Drama Series category, thanks to Kevin Spacey's performance as U.S. Representative Francis "Frank" J. Underwood. Bryan Cranston ("Breaking Bad"), Damian Lewis ("Homeland"), Andrew Lincoln ("The Walking Dead"), Timothy Olyphant ("Justified") and Matthew Rhys ("The Americans") are the other contenders for the prize.
Best Actress in a Drama Series, meanwhile, has Claire Danes of "Homeland", Vera Farmiga of "Bates Motel", Julianna Margulies of "The Good Wife", Tatiana Maslany of "Orphan Black", Elisabeth Moss of "Mad Men" and Keri Russell of "The Americans" as the nominees.
Network wise, HBO leads the pack with 21 nominations, followed by FX with 19, CBS with 11 ABC with 10, FOX and NBC, which are tied for 9 nominations apiece. The winners will be announced at a June 10 awards gala in Beverly Hills to be hosted by "Parks and Recreation" star Retta
