'Undercover Angel' Singer Alan O'Day Dies of Cancer

His record label says that the singer-songwriter who wrote 'Rock and Roll Heaven' didn't stop writing and performing 'until his last days.'

"Undercover Angel" singer Alan O'Day passed away in his Westwood, California home on Friday, May 17, his label announced. The singer-songwriter died after losing battle against cancer at the age of 72. He is survived by his wife Yuka.

"Alan was a generous man who gave his heart and soul to the music industry," a statement from 1st Phase Records read. The label also noted in the statement that "Alan continued to write and perform until his last days."

O'Day joined Warner Bros. in 1971. He later penned songs such as 's "Train of Thoughts", The Righteous Brothers' "Rock and Roll Heaven", and Helen Reddy's "Angie Baby" which became number 1 hit in 1974. O'Day continued his success by landing on the top of Hot 100 in 1977 with his song "Undercover Angel".

According to Billboard, O'Day created numerous pieces for "Muppet Babies" cartoons alongside Janis Liebhart in 1980s. Johnny Mathis, the 5th Dimension, , Dusty Springfield, Tony Orlando, Three Dog Night and were among artists who worked with O'Day in the past.

Diane Warren mourned the passing of the talented artist on Twitter. "If there's a Rock n Roll Heven well U know they got one hell of a band. My friend Alan O'Days song. The band just got better my friend. RIP," she wrote on Saturday.
