Shovels and Rope Lead 2013 Americana Awards Nominees

With four nods, the husband and wife tandem leads this year's Americana Music Association Awards nominations.

South Carolina folk duo Shovels & Rope leads the 2013 Americana Music Association Awards nominees, getting the most number of nominations this year with four nods. The husband and wife tandem of Michael Trent and Cary Ann Hearst will know on September 18 how many awards they will get to bring home after the ceremony that will take place in the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, Tennessee.

Shovels & Rope are vying for the Best Emerging Artist of the Year and Best Duo or Group of the Year honors as well as for the Album of the Year award for "O Be Joyful" and for the Song of the Year award for "Birmingham". The winners will be revealed in the awards show to be hosted by Jim Lauderdale, with Buddy Miller leading the event's all-star band.

The nominations were revealed at a Grammy Museum ceremony on Tuesday, May 14 that featured performances from Miller & Lauderdale, T-Bone Burnett with , Elizabeth Cook and The Milk Carton Kids. Miller, who is nominated for Artist of the Year, is up for Duo/Group of the Year with Lauderdale, as their collaboration "Buddy & Jim" competes in the Album of the Year category.

Also trailing Shovels & Rope with three nominations is who is likewise competing in the categories where Miller was nominated in. She and Rodney Crowell are included in the Duo/Group of the Year and their collaboration, "", is vying for Album of the Year.
