Mysteriously pulled from theaters on April 11, the Quentin Tarantino film, which features Jamie Foxx as a freed slave, is set to open again in the most populous country on May 12.

AceShowbiz - Quentin Tarantino's "Django Unchained" is confirmed to be re-released in China on Sunday, May 12. The film about a freed-slave, portrayed by Jamie Foxx, will be a modified version of the one that was mysteriously pulled from theaters on its first day of release in the country on April 11.

"We are delighted that audiences throughout China will be able to experience 'Django Unchained' beginning Sunday, May 12th," Columbia Pictures, a unit of Sony Entertainment, said in a statement. "There is tremendous excitement, anticipation and awareness for the film and we thank the local authorities for quickly resolving this issue."

China's State Administration for Radio, Film and Television (SARFT) yanked "Django" from theaters during its premiere without any explanation. On its official Weibo account, the company stated that the film's screenings would be delayed for "technical reasons," and promised moviegoers reimbursement for tickets.

The studio's head of China operations Zhang Miao announced that the film had already been altered for the Chinese market. "The director had agreed to minor adjustments for different markets...for example, the blood can be darkened a little, and the spouts of blood can be shortened," he told the Southern Metropolis Daily.

According to industry insiders who spoke with the newspaper, a scene of frontal nudity from the film, which was Tarantino's first film to receive permission for screening in China, was the cause of ban. "The eunuchs [at SARFT] can't stand looking at other people's privates," commented user SunLiCentury on Weibo site.
