Snyder could be the frontrunner for 'Justice League' helming job if his Henry Cavill-starring film becomes a hit at the box office.

AceShowbiz - The latest issue of Empire magazine drops a hint of possible "Justice League" helmer. Without giving any direct quote from related parties, the mag reports that Warner Bros. will offer the job to Zack Snyder if his upcoming film "Man of Steel", which will hit U.S. theaters on June 14, is a blockbuster success.

According to the article (via Joblo), "Warner Bros.' long-term view has been revised to embrace this new vision, just as the 'Dark Knight' films resisted the commodification of Marvel. Whether we get a 'Justice League', they say, depends on 'MAN OF STEEL'. If we do, they say, Zack Snyder will be asked to direct."

Snyder himself has given a clue that he might not be on board the project, which is rumored to eye a 2015 release. "I don't know how 'Justice League' is going to be handled. Honestly, I don't," he told NY Post in November 2012. "But 'The Man of Steel' exists, and Superman is in it. I don't know how you'd move forward without acknowledging that."

Even so, he once indicated his excitement about the chances of creating a DC cinematic universe, saying, "I have a hard time having perspective. But I have to say that it is everything that I could have hoped for. Touch wood that I am not insane, but it feels really good."

Starring Henry Cavill as the superhero and Amy Adams as Lois Lane, "Man of Steel" centers on young Clark Kent who tries to discover the ultimate reason of his existence on Earth as he possesses extraordinary powers.

The superhero film is set to hit U.S. theaters on June 14.
