The 'Argo' star voluntarily joins Global Poverty Project's 'Live Below the Line' campaign by living under $1.50 budget a day to raise funds for people living in extreme poverty.

AceShowbiz - Ben Affleck uses his celebrity status for a good cause. This time, he wants to raise awareness about global poverty by joining "Live Below the Line" campaign. Ben announced his participation and encouraged his Twitter followers to get involved in the project on Monday, April 22. "1.4 billion people live on less than $1.50/day. I'm joining Live #BelowTheLine on behalf of @easterncongo. Will you?" he tweeted.
"Live Below the Line" campaign requires its participants to limit their budget for food and drink at maximum $1.50 a day, starting from next Monday, April 29, until May 3. According to World Bank, the figure $1.50 is U.S.' equivalent to extreme poverty line. Besides Ben, other names such as actress Sophia Bush and Vice President Joe Biden's son Hunter Biden are going to take part in the project. Singer-songwriter Josh Groban, who previously joined the campaign, is making another voluntary session.
"Taking on this challenge last year was such a humbling experience for me, and I was so proud and heartened by my fans that joined me," Josh said in a statement. The "Brave" singer added, "It's amazing how much we take for granted not having to live in hunger, and I am honored to have been asked to help spread the word about this eye-opening campaign again this year."
20,000 people are expected to join the campaign this year. The participants will share their experience on their personal social media accounts as well as the campaign's official account. Hugh Jackman, Malin Akerman, Minka Kelly and Nick Lachey are among celebrities who have participated in the campaign over the years.
