Comedian Jonathan Winters Dies, Jimmy Kimmel and Other Celebrities Tweet Tribute

Jimmy Kimmel, Jim Carrey, Steve Martin and many other celebrities take to Twitter to mourn the death of the 'It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World' star who passed away because of natural causes.

Comedian Jonathan Winters passed away on Thursday, April 11 at his home in Montecito, California at the age of 87. Winters' official website announced that he died of natural causes. The comedian who is known for his brilliant improvisation on stage is survived by a son, a daughter, and five grandchildren.

Actors and other comedians paid tribute to Winters via Twitter after hearing the news of his passing. wrote, "Jonathan Winters was the worthy custodian of a sparkling and childish comedic genius. He did God's work. I was lucky 2 know him," while wrote a similar statement, "I feel very lucky to have had the chance to know the great Jonathan Winters, who was funny from beginning to end."

wrote, "The first time I saw Jonathan Winters perform, I thought I might as well quit the business. Because, I could never be as brilliant," after hearing Winters' passing. , who confessed that Winters inspired him in many of his works, praised his senior, "First he was my idol, then he was my mentor and amazing friend. I'll miss him huge. He was my Comedy Buddha. Long live the Buddha."

Other people referred to Winters as a genius. "I just lost a best friend, Jonathan Winters. He meant the world to me. A genius and the greatest improvisational comedian of all time," Richard Lewis wrote. Comedian and filmmaker tweeted, "R.I.P Jonathan Winters. Beyond funny, he invented a new category of comedic genius."

Throughout his career, Winters had his own comedy shows "The Wacky World of Jonathan Winters" and "The Jonathan Winters Show". In addition, he starred on TV series "The Twilight Zone" and movies such as "" and "The Loved One". He also wrote books and appeared in many commercials.
