MTV on 'Buckwild' Cancellation: It's Not Appropriate to Continue Without Shain Gandee

The network says it made the decision to axe the show 'after careful consideration,' planning to air a special dedicated to the late Shain on Sunday, April 13.

AceShowbiz - MTV has officially announced "Buckwild" cancellation. On Wednesday, April 10, the network said in a statement, "After careful consideration, MTV will not be moving forward with season two of 'Buckwild' in West Virginia." It explained, "We love the cast and the show and this was not an easy decision, but given Shain [Gandee]'s tragic passing and essential presence on the show, we felt it was not appropriate to continue without him."

Planning "a meaningful way to pay tribute to his memory on our air and privately," MTV will air a special, "Buckwild: WV to the NYC", dedicated to Shain on Sunday, April 13 at 8 P.M. ET/PT. Before the tribute special, the network will air the entire first season of "Buckwild".

Before MTV made the cancellation official, TMZ had broken the news. The show's producer J.P. Williams was upset that the reality series was canceled, slamming the network, "This is the network that has shows about teen pregnancy. They'll stick by a show that allows you to abandon a child, but a kid dies by accident doing what he does for a living [mudding] and they cancel the show? There's something that smells of s*** here on every level."

Fans and some cast members took to Twitter to urge MTV to keep the show. "Buckwild can NOT be cancelled. Shain would want them to carry on," one fan tweeted, while another wrote, "Why would they cancel #buckwild do it for Shain god."

"Buckwild" star Ashley Whitt tweeted, "Yea people #buckwild is actually canceled & Shain would be f****** pissed. Tweet @MTV & tell them to keep it going," along with the hashtag #KeepBuckwildForShain. Co-star Cara Parrish added, "I think @MTV should show reality. Losing Shain broke all our hearts. I want to #KeepBuckwildForShain keep teaching how to #LiveLikeGandee."

As reported before, MTV canceled the show in the middle of production for second season following Shain's sudden passing. Williams, however, plans to continue filming the show and make a "Buckwild" film, even if it means he has to self-finance it.
