With robotic armor attached to his body, Damon's Max tries to infiltrate the pristine man-made space station, fighting against high-tech robots that monitor Earth's citizens.

AceShowbiz - The highly-anticipated first trailer for "Elysium" has finally been unleashed. It gives a clear depiction of two very distinct places, the eponymous space station where wealthiest citizens live and the overpopulated and ruined Earth.

Matt Damon plays Max, a blue-collar worker who only has days left to live after suffering an accident at work. Trying to find the cure, he hatches a plan to break into Elysium, the most guarded place in the universe. Armed with mechanical suit that gives him superhuman strength, he faces off high-tech robots that monitor Earth's citizens.

Jodie Foster joins Damon in the cast ensemble, playing Secretary Rhodes, a hard government official who will stop at nothing to enforce anti-immigration laws and preserve the luxurious lifestyle of the citizens of Elysium. Sharlto Copley stars as Elysium military man Kruger.

Serving behind the lens is Neill Blomkamp who, like his previous film "District 9", highlights socioeconomic issues, but manages to wrap it in an action-packed movie. The sci-fi pic is set to hit U.S. theaters on August 9.

"If you went to a third-world country now, that's what all of Earth is like [in this movie]," Blomkamp said at last year's Comic-Con. "It's like all of the wealth got pulled out -- all of the structure and the first-world elements imploded because they were pulled off onto a space station, so you're left with a lot of people [who] are slightly desperate and things don't really work."
