Paramount Pictures reportedly gives a go to the third installment of the 'G.I. Joe' film franchise following the $132 million global bow for the newly-released second installment.

AceShowbiz - Thrilled to hear the good news of "G.I. Joe: Retaliation" debuting atop the North American box office and collecting $132 million worldwide, Paramount Pictures is now planning its sequel. On March 31, sources told Variety that the studio was moving forward with plans for a third installment.

Released on March 28, "Retaliation" bags $51.7 million domestically in four-day take and ranks as the second-best Easter opening, behind "Clash of the Titans". The 3D conversion of the film, which receives "A-" from CinemaScore, earns $80.3 million in overseas box office receipts, marking the year's largest overseas debut.

"Internationally is where you really see the 3D upside," Rob Moore, vice chairman of the studio, told Variety. "This opening really is a testament to the hard work that Adam Goodman [the president of Paramount Film Group] did with his team and the filmmakers."

"Retaliation", which stars Channing Tatum as Duke and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson as Roadblock, was delayed nine months for re-shoots and the 3D conversion. The film, which is an MGM-Skydance co-production, outdid its predecessor "G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra" by 35|percent| globally. The first installment, which cost $175 million, grossed $303 million globally and merely received a B+ rating.
