Jenna Wolfe and Stephanie Gosk 'Rock-Paper-Scissored' to Decide Who Would Carry the Baby

The anchor of 'Today' weekend edition also cracks a joke that co-anchor Lester Holt is her baby daddy but she's planning to keep it secret.

When it's two women in a relationship, it could be rather dilemmatic to determine who will carry the baby if they plan to have one, but people could take inspiration from same-sex couple Jenna Wolfe and Stephanie Gosk for solution. The NBC presenters came up with a creative way when they faced the same problem.

"We rock-paper-scissored it. I won 34-31, so I'm carrying the baby, bam," Jenna tells E! News, a few hours after announcing her pregnancy. The anchor of "" show for weekend edition then jokes that co-anchor Lester Holt is her baby daddy but she and Stephanie are planning to "keep it under wraps."

Jenna underwent artificial insemination with an anonymous donor in December. She announced that she's expecting a baby girl on the same day she and her partner of three years, NBC's foreign correspondent Stephanie, officially came out as a couple. She's five months pregnant and due to give birth on August 27.

Although Stephanie kept telling her to "hurry up" and deliver already, Jenna thought it was important to tell her story first. "This is the most exciting thing that has ever happened to us," she said to PEOPLE. "But I don't want to bring my daughter into a world where I'm not comfortable telling everyone who I am and who her mother is."

She later explained to E! News about her wanting to set example for her daughter. "I think if you're not who you are, you're going to have a hard time explaining to your kid why it's OK to wake up every day and walk out into the world proud of who they are," she reasons. "We have got nothing but positive feedback."

She promised to take fans through every step of her pregnancy on a diary-styled blog for NBC, which already started in her first post about how the pregnancy took her to a journey she's never been before including her morning sickness where she could only eat "Saltine crackers, Apple Jacks dry cereal and plain pasta."

"This baby doesn't care that I was in phenomenal shape before getting pregnant. She doesn't care that I had a near perfect diet. She made the first four months brutal for me ... B-R-U-T-A-L," she noted. Among the things she's never experienced before, the weirdest one was "apparently it's OK to just walk up to you and touch your belly."

She also explained why adding another member to the family felt like the right call for them. "Something just sort of told me it was time. Two years into a great relationship and we felt like we wanted to share our adventures with a wide-eyed, little person. The more we talked about it, the better the idea seemed," she said.

Both confessed they never expected to be a mother and felt so domesticated before. "As a kid, I would have chosen raising my adrenaline over raising children any day of the week. But then a funny thing happened on my way to adulthood ... I grew up. I ran smack into the old nursery rhyme: 'First comes love,' " Jenna uttered.

" 'Then comes marriage. Then comes Jenna pushing a baby carriage'," she wrote on her blog. "But while my life didn't quite unfold as rhymed, it's awfully close." The couple did say they would eventually get married but would focus on the baby for now.
