'The Hobbit' and 'Skyfall' Win Big at 2013 Empire Awards

Martin Freeman is named Best Actor for his role in 'The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey', while Jennifer Lawrence grabs Best Actress award for her portrayal of Katniss in 'The Hunger Games'.

AceShowbiz - "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey" and "Skyfall" grabbed coveted prizes at the recent Jameson Empire Awards held at the Grosvenor House Hotel on Sunday evening, March 24 in London. The movie adaptation of J. R. R. Tolkien's fabled story and the latest James Bond film won two gongs each.

"The Hobbit" took home Best Science-Fiction/Fantasy and helped Martin Freeman win Best Actor. "Skyfall" snatched Best Film title, while its helmer Sam Mendes received Best Director award for his work on the movie. The filmmaker was additionally presented Empire Inspiration Award at the prize-giving ceremony.

Best Actress went to Jennifer Lawrence for her portrayal of Katniss Everdeen in "The Hunger Games". Best Horror was awarded to "The Woman in Black" and its male lead Daniel Radcliffe was given Empire Hero Award. Director Danny Boyle received Outstanding Contribution Award and Helen Mirren was named Empire Legend.

Such winners as Radcliffe, Boyle, Mirren and Freeman as well as Best Newcomers Samantha Barks and Tom Holland were spotted coming to the annual event to collect their awards. Other guests included British singer Ellie Goulding, "The Avengers" villain Tom Hiddleston, and "Snow White and the Huntsman" actor Sam Claflin.
