The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are visiting soldiers from the 1st Battalion Irish Guards when the duchess' 4-inch-heel gets stuck in a grate during the ceremony.

AceShowbiz - Kate Middleton got her left heel stuck in a grate during St. Patrick's Day parade in Hampshire, England, on Sunday, March 17. Wearing a green coat, the duchess accompanied her husband Prince William to present shamrocks to the members of the Irish Guards.

Kate, who was talking to a guard with Prince William, at first did not realize that her left heel was caught in the grate. Prince William, who had amused expression on his face, held his pregnant wife's hand when she bent to release her heel from the drain. A soldier in salute position observed the couple smilingly. The duchess just laughed off the small mishap.

The incident did not ruin her mood. Kate continued greeting the soldiers and answering some questions. A 29-year-old guardsman Lee Wheeler said, "I asked her 'do you know if it's a girl or boy?' and she said 'not yet.' " Wheeler added, "She said, 'I'd like to have a boy and William would like a girl.' That's always the way. I asked her if she had any names and she said no." Another guardsman Jason Perry revealed that Kate was very "excited to have her first child."

Kate presented traditional sprigs of shamrock to officers and guardsmen at the ceremony, including Prince William who was present as Colonel of the Regiment. She also put the shamrock to the collar of their mascot, an Irish wolfhound named Domhnall.

The presentation of sprigs of shamrock was started by the wife of Edward VII, Queen Alexandra, in 1901. The one who usually presents the shamrock to the soldiers is Queen Mother.
