Disney has reportedly planned on making the sequel to the Sam Raimi-directed film by hiring Mitchell Kapner, who penned the first movie, to write the script.

AceShowbiz - "Oz: The Great and Powerful" won't hit theaters until Friday, March 8, but Disney has given a greenlight to the sequel of the film. According to Variety, the studio has already hired Mitchell Kapner, who co-wrote the first film with David Lindsay-Abaire, to work on the sequel's script.

No plot details are available at this point, but it is highly likely that the original cast members return to the sequel. Mila Kunis once revealed that she and her co-stars were on board for the upcoming film. "We're all signed on for sequels," she said. Rachel Weisz was also enthusiastic about the possibility of a second installment. "I hope so," she said when asked about sequel plans. "If there is one, I'd love to be in it."

Meanwhile, Michelle Williams said she would join the sequel if director Sam Raimi also returned. "Wherever Sam goes, I'll go," she said. "I'd do anything Sam asks me to do. I'd get stuck in quicksand with him." As for the director, he didn't seem to know the sequel plan.

"I'm not signed up for a sequel and I have no plans right now to make a sequel," said Raimi. "I don't know where Disney is with that. They are probably waiting to see what the critical response is and what the audience response is and how well it does at the box office."

"Oz: the Great and Powerful" follows Oscar Diggs (James Franco) who meets three witches, Theodora (Kunis), Evanora (Weisz) and Glinda (Williams). Reluctantly drawn into the epic problems facing the Land of Oz and its inhabitants, Oscar must find out who is good and who is evil before it is too late. Putting his magical arts to use through illusion, ingenuity and even a bit of wizardry, Oscar transforms himself not only into the great and powerful Wizard of Oz but into a better man as well.
