'Modern Family' Cast Eric Stonestreet, Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Julie Bowen Stuck in Elevator
Eric Stonestreet, Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Julie Bowen had an unforgettable moment during their brief visit to Kansas City where Stonestreet grew up. The "Modern Family" cast was stuck in an elevator for nearly an hour at the Sheraton Kansas City Hotel at Crown Center.
The incident happened Friday, March 1 while they were on their ways to attend a charity event benefitting the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Kansas City. At least 12 people including Stonestreet's mother were with them inside the elevator when it broke down on the third floor.
They were rescued around 45 minutes later by the Kansas City Fire Department who worked "their way down from the 40th floor to reach and free the trapped people." They ended up arriving an hour late to the fundraisers and couldn't help cracking jokes about the elevator drama at the event.
Many thought the host was joking when announcing the stars would be late because they got held up in the elevator. When the celebrity guests didn't show up 15 minutes later, they realized it was not a joke. By the time the threesome showed up, some people in the crowd already left.
During their banters onstage, they joked that Bowen had to go to the bathroom while being stuck the elevator. The Claire Dunphy depicter denied it, saying she's working on her bladder control. Stonestreet later closed out the night with: "Have a great night and don't use the elevators!"
While inside the elevator, the three stars took pictures, recorded videos and posted messages online. "This is us right now. 45 mins stuck in this elevator," Ferguson wrote on Twitter along with a photo of him with his two co-stars standing close in the cramped space.
"Finally made it out of the stuck elevator at the one hour mark. At least the firemen in K.C. are cute," Ferguson added. Bowen also tweeted about the rescue mission, "After a quick hour trapped in the service elevator, we were rescued by Duke and the Fire dept."
Stonestreet posted a message of his own, jokingly tweeted, "I honestly handled being stuck in an elevator for 50min better than I thought. All @jessetyler did was pass wind."
On a serious note, Ferguson wrote, "Thanks Boys & Girls Club of Kansas City for having us. I'm enjoying the sequence of these tweets from my time in KS." Bowen added, "Stopped on way to airport to see where @ericstonestreet grew up. Apparently this is how you say bye in Kansas City," to which Stonestreet replied, "So nice of @jessetyler and @itsJulieBowen to visit my boyhood home while in Kansas City."
Fellow cast member Ty Burrell was originally scheduled to appear at the event with them, but couldn't make it due to scheduling conflict.
