'A Different World' Actor Lou Myers Dies at 77

Myers, who played Mr. Vernon Gaines on '80s TV show 'A Different World', passes away at the age of 77 because of a heart issue.

AceShowbiz - Lou Myers passed away in Charleston Medical Center in West Virginia after having heart emergency. Doctors were able to revive the actor's heart, but then he went into coma. He passed away hours later.

Tonia McDonald, a director of Myers' non-profit Global Business Incubation Inc. explained that Myers died on Tuesday night, February 19. The actor had issues with his health condition. He was hospitalized in December because of pneumonia and discharged after new year. However, he fainted a few weeks later, and was hospitalized again.

According to official records, Myers was born in 1935, although his birthday was mentioned on online sites as September 26, 1945. A source told TMZ that Myers altered his date of birth. The source added, "You know how actors are."

An autopsy is arranged to determine the cause of his death. According to TMZ, Myers who served the Army will have military burial in West Virginia. He is survived by his son and 95-year-old mother.

Lou Myers took part in numerous serials, including "NYPD Blue", "ER", "The Cosby Show" and "Touched by an Angel." In addition, he also starred in many movies such as "Tin Cup", "How Stella Got Her Groove Back" and "Wedding Planner" among others. Myers' latest movie appearance was in 2010's "It's Kind of a Funny Story."

Myers was a chairman of Global Business Incubation and Lou Myers Scenario Motion Picture Institute/Theater. He was mostly remembered for his role as Mr Vernon Gaines on "A Different World" alongside Lisa Bonet from "The Cosby Show".
