'Argo' and 'Zero Dark Thirty' Win Big at 2013 Writers Guild Awards
Ben Affleck's "Argo" snatched yet another prestigious award. This time around, the Iranian hostage drama claimed the Best Adapted Screenplay prize at the 2013 Writers Guild of America Awards which was held on Sunday, February 17.
The coveted award went to screenwriter Chris Terrio, who adapted the script based on a selection from "The Master of Disguise" by Antonio J. Mendez and the Wired Magazine article "The Great Escape" by Joshuah Bearman.
Terrio beat out the likes of Tony Kushner ("Lincoln"), David O. Russell ("Silver Linings Playbook"), David Magee ("Life of Pi"), and Stephen Chbosky ("The Perks of Being a Wallflower").
As for the Original Screenplay, the prize was claimed by "Zero Dark Thirty (2012)". Scribe Mark Boal collected the gong, defeating John Gatins ("Flight"), Rian Johnson ("Looper"), Paul Thomas Anderson ("The Master") and Wes Anderson & Roman Coppola ("Moonrise Kingdom").
Apart from movie category, WGAs also handed out its awards for TV field. "Louie" won the writing award for the Comedy Series, "Breaking Bad" for the Drama Series, and "Girls" for the New Series. In the category of comedy/variety, "Portlandia" won for series, while the "66th Annual Tony Awards" won for special.
