The 'How I Met Your Mother' actress says, 'I am in severe fear for my safety and the safety of my family,' after John Hobbs threatens to rape and kill her in numerous disturbing messages online.

AceShowbiz - Alyson Hannigan has been granted temporary restraining order against Nashua, New Hampshire resident John Hobbs. He is ordered by court to stay away from the "How I Met Your Mother" actress and her family who live in California after allegedly threatening to rape and take her to the "after-life."

Hannigan says in her filings in L.A. County Superior Court that Hobbs, whom she has never met, has in the past two months "posted a barrage of threatening messages directed at me and my family on various websites." She claims he's "mentally unstable and was recently discharged from a mental hospital."

When he was interviewed by police in his hometown, 43-year-old Hobbs acknowledged that he wanted to travel to California and meet Hannigan, 38. "Hobbs seemed to be living in an alternate reality," the investigator concluded after talking to him and reviewing his Facebook account.

One of his disturbing messages allegedly read, "Lets (sic) see How can I get myself in troble (sic) today. If I go with what I've been acussed (sic) of Most of my Life, I suppose I should start with being a rapist, so any nice girls out there want to get raped?"

Hannigan is seeking to extend the restraining order for three years to protect herself, husband Alexis Denisof and their children ages 1 and 3 from the man. "I am in severe fear for my safety and the safety of my family," she reasons. A hearing is scheduled for March 6 in Los Angeles.

A phone number registered to Hobbs has been disconnected.
