Chris Pratt Is Officially the 'Guardians of the Galaxy' Leader

The 'Zero Dark Thirty' star beats some other Hollywood actors in the race to win the coveted role of Peter Quill a.k.a Star-Lord.

"" has finally found its leader. After a long search, Marvel Studios has confirmed on Tuesday, February 5 that was officially chosen to tackle the coveted part of Peter Quill a.k.a Star-Lord.

The "" actor beats some others Hollywood actors who also pursued the role. They included , , , , and . It was also rumored that was approached, but he turned down the offer.

Quill or Star-Lord leads a group of alien superheros including Rocket Raccoon, Groot, Drax the Destroyer and Gamora to protect the solar system from an evil force. They come from the future and another dimension. In the Marvel comics, the Guardians also work with The Avengers to protect the universe.

The movie project is still looking for actors to play the other members of the Guardians. Back in early January, it was rumored that muscular actors Isaiah Mustafa, Brian Patrick Wade and were all in negotiations to tackle the part of Drax. No official words, however, have been released to confirm or clarify the report.

"Guardians of the Galaxy" has hired James Gunn as the director and Black List scribe Chris McCoy as the screenwriter. The movie reportedly will follow a far-future story revolving around a group of alien beings - each the last of their kind - who eventually travel back in time to protect the earth from alien invasion. Marvel plans to release the flick Stateside on August 1, 2014.

As for Pratt, the actor husband of was most recently seen in Kathryn Bigelow's "" and star-studded comedy "" with his wife. He has recently been busy filming another comedy movie "The Delivery Man", and will lend his voice to lead character Emmett in "Lego: The Piece of Resistance".
