The Muppets Flock the Train Station in First Image of the Sequel
After kicking off its production in London last week, "The Muppets" sequel unleashes its very first sneak peek in form of a new still. Almost at the same time, Walt Disney Pictures also drops a press release, announcing that the upcoming puppet movie will now be officially titled "The Muppets...Again!"
The colorful image shows Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy and their gang flocking a train station. Some of them are featured hanging on a pillar, another one is seen running in hurry, others are just sitting randomly on a stack of suitcases or on a bench. A man is also seen making a call in a phone booth.
Along with the picture, Disney unveils the official synopsis for the family movie. It will follow the entire Muppets gang on a global tour, selling out grand theaters in some of Europe's most exciting destinations, including Berlin, Madrid and London.
However, mayhem follows the Muppets overseas as they find themselves unwittingly entangled in an international crime caper headed by Constantine - the World's Number One Criminal and a dead ringer for Kermit - and his dastardly sidekick Dominic, aka Number Two, portrayed by Ricky Gervais.
Apart from Gervais, the film also stars Tina Fey as Nadya, a feisty prison guard, and Ty Burrell as Interpol agent Jean Pierre Napoleon. Gervais himself recently tweeted a first look at himself in the movie. Accompanied by Miss Piggy and Kermit, he is seen making a funny face against the background of the same train station featured in the official still.
The sequel film will bring back James Bobin to the directing seat. He also co-writes the script along with Nicholas Stoller. David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman are set to return as the producers. Disney will release the family flick Stateside on March 21, 2014.
"It's great to be back working with the Muppets," said Bobin, "some of them even remember my name occasionally now. As for the movie, it's a tip of the hat to the old-school crime capers of the '60s, but featuring a frog, a pig, a bear and a dog- no panthers, even pink ones - along with the usual Muppet-y mix of mayhem, music and laughs."
Kermit the Frog added, "This movie takes us places we've never been before. And trust me - this frog has never seen so much international flavor. I think audiences will eat it up - the entertainment, that is."
Per usual, the upcoming Muppets film will feature a slew of celebrity cameos. The movie is shot in London and Hollywood, as well as in the famed Pinewood Studios in Iver Heath, Buckinghamshire.
