Mireille Enos and Joel Kinnaman will reprise their roles as Sarah Linden and Stephen Holder respectively, but some other original stars like Billy Campbell and Michelle Forbes won't return.

AceShowbiz - The plans to resurrect "The Killing" come to fruition. AMC has officially announced that it will bring back the critically-acclaimed series for a third season after canceling it in July 2012.

" 'The Killing' from Day 1 has been a truly original take on the crime drama," says AMC's president Charlie Collier in a statement. "Veena Sud and the rest of the talented creative tream are hard at work ... we're so pleased to welcome 'The Killing' back for another season. We have always believed in The Killing and remain extremely proud of it, which is why we all worked so hard to find a scenario that could give it new life."

Showrunner Sud adds, "I couldn't be happier to know that I will be returning to work with AMC, FTVS and Mireille and Joel on what is and has always been a passion project for me. To the fans that have supported the series, thank you for doing so. My team and I will work hard to deliver the best story that we can for season three."

Lead actors Mireille Enos and Joel Kinnaman will return for the third season, although some other original actors, namely Billy Campbell and Michelle Forbes, won't be back to the show. Production is set to kick off on February 25 in Vancouver, for a 2014 premiere.

After investigating the murder of Rosie Larsen in the first two seasons, the show will focus on a new case that will be solved in a 12-episode run of the third installment. The story is set a year after the Larsen case is closed.

Enos' Sarah Linden is no longer a detective, while her ex-partner, Kinnaman's Stephen Holder, searches for a runaway girl. The new case leads him to discover a gruesome string of murders that connect to a previous investigation by Linden. This is when Linden is drawn back into the life she thought she had left behind.

While it was previously reported that AMC would team up with Netflix to resurrect "The Killing", no deal has been sealed with the Internet streaming media as of press time.
