'Scandal' 2.11 Preview Shows How the Injury Affects the President
TV

Fitz is told that the bullet got through the part of his brain which controls personality and an ability to make decision.

AceShowbiz - The President is already awake, but that doesn't mean his loyal supporters will stop worrying about him when "Scandal" returns next week. As the President is taking questions from the press who are curious whether the shooting may cause impaired brain functioning, Olivia and Cyrus are concerned that Fitz isn't strong enough to even stand on the podium.

Meanwhile, a doctor tells Fitz that the bullet got through the part of his brain that's in charge of his personality and his ability to make decision. The President shows signs that he's still struggling to be fully recovered while already back to work.

As changes continue to rock the White House, the President and Olivia may have a new problem with Edison accusing them of having an affair in the past. It, however, doesn't prevent her from sharing a kiss with Fitz in the present. The episode will also take a look back at the rigged election in a flashback.

"A Criminal, a Whore, an Idiot and a Liar" will air Thursday, January 17 at 10 P.M. on ABC.

Tony Goldwyn, who plays President Fitz, says the shooting "affected him pretty severely physically... It's going to be a struggle for him. But also, as classically happens in a situation like this, it's given him a sense of real clarity about what he's doing and what's important in his life, mainly Olivia, but also a lot of things."

On how the injury affects him physically, the actor tells TV Guide, "It's going to be a struggle. Fitz is going to push himself very, very hard. Mellie really sticks her neck out and does this terribly stupid thing of forging Fitz's signature, and he's going to have to be present enough to figure out a way to fix that for her in order to protect her. It'll cost him. It's going to be really tough for him."
