AceShowbiz - Nominees for the upcoming 85th annual Academy Awards have been announced early Thursday morning, January 10 at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills, California, by Oscars host Seth MacFarlane and actress Emma Stone. "Lincoln" leads the list with a total of 12 nominations including Best Picture, Best Cinematography, Best Adapted Screen and Best Costume Design.

In Best Picture, the movie is facing off "Beasts of the Southern Wild", "Silver Linings Playbook", "Zero Dark Thirty", "Lincoln", "Les Miserables", "Life of Pi", "Amour", "Django Unchained" and "Argo". It has to beat "Skyfall", "Anna Karenina", "Django Unchained" and "Life of Pi" to win Best Cinematography.

The movie about the 16th President of the United States joins the battle of Best Adapted Screenplay along with "Silver Linings Playbook%", "Argo", "Life of Pi" and "Beasts of the Southern Wild". It, meanwhile, goes head-tohead with "Anna Karenina", "Les Miserables", "Mirror Mirror" and "Snow White and the Huntsman" in Best Costume Design.

Furthermore, its helmer Steven Spielberg is vying for Best Director along with David O. Russell ("Silver Linings Playbook"), Ang Lee ("Life of Pi"), Michael Haneke ("Amour") and Benh Zeitlin ("Beasts of the Southern Wild"). It also leads its leading man Daniel Day-Lewis to battle for Best Actor with Denzel Washington ("Flight"), Hugh Jackman ("Les Miserables"), Bradley Cooper ("Silver Linings Playbook"), and Joaquin Phoenix ("The Master").

The movie's two other cast Tommy Lee Jones and Sally Field get nominated as well. The former is listed as a contender for Best Supporting Actor with Christoph Waltz ("Django Unchained"), Philip Seymour Hoffman ("The Master"), Robert De Niro ("Silver Linings Playbook"), and Alan Arkin ("Argo"). The latter is facing off Anne Hathaway ("Les Miserables"), Jacki Weaver ("Silver Linings Playbook"), Helen Hunt ("The Sessions") and Amy Adams ("The Master").

The winners will be announced at the ceremony on February 24 at the Dolby Theatre in the Hollywood district of Los Angeles, California. The show will pay tribute to the 50th anniversary of the James Bond film series. This year marks the first time the host announces the nominations for the Academy Awards since host Charlton Heston did that in 1972.
