The Academy to Celebrate 50th Anniversary of James Bond at 2013 Oscars

The fictional character currently played by Daniel Craig will be saluted by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences at the awards event on February 24.

In addition to handing out awards to the best in movie industry during the year of 2012, the upcoming 85th annual Academy Awards will have a special segment dedicated to honor James Bond. The tribute is a celebration of the 50th anniversary of the movie franchise about the world's most famous spy agent who was played by in the latest project "".

"We are very happy to include a special sequence on our show saluting the Bond films on their 50th birthday," said producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron. "Starting with 'Dr. No' back in 1962, the 007 movies have become the longest-running motion picture franchise in history and a beloved global phenomenon."

Nominations for the upcoming Oscars will be announced on January 10 in the Academy's Samuel Goldwyn Theater, and the winners will be revealed at the live telecast of the Academy Awards on February 24. "" actor will host the event live from the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, California.
