The Foo Fighters frontman will unveil both his 'Sound City' documentary and musical group at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival.

AceShowbiz - Dave Grohl will premiere his directorial debut "Sound City" at this year's Sundance Film Festival and at the same time, perform in a gig at the annual event. He will introduce a performance of the Sound City Players, a group of core musicians and special guests from Grohl's star-studded documentary about the revered recording studio. Grohl and the Sound City Players are set to perform on January 18 at the Park City Live.

"The film 'Sound City' showcases the most talented group of musicians in the world and we are thrilled they chose to celebrate the documentary at Park City Live," said Kathryn Burns, CEO of Park City Live. "The evening will be spectacular and we look forward to seeing who will join Dave Grohl and the Sound City Players onstage."

Legendary musicians Stevie Nicks, Trent Reznor of the Nine Inch Nails, Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Tom Petty and heavy metal band Metallica all appear in "Sound City" documentary and may join the Sound City Players debut, although it's not clear yet who are going to perform.

They all have, at one time in their careers, recorded their album in the two-building complex in Van Nuys, Los Angeles, California that served as the recording studio for some of the most successful albums from the biggest names in music from Fleetwood Mac to Nirvana and Neil Young to Johnny Cash.

Grohl conceived the story for his documentary after buying a custom-built 8028 recording console from Sound City Studios. Built in 1972, the board is considered to be a "crown jewel of analog recording equipment."

Even before that, Grohl already had a personal connection with Sound City when he, as a drummer in rock band Nirvana, joined Kurt Cobain and the rest of the group in recording their breakthrough album "Nevermind" in the famed recording studio.
